How I Refresh My Front Door for Spring

Easy DIY Magnolia Wreath & Custom Wreath Sash

Hey y’all!
As soon as the daffodils peek out and the breeze softens just a little, I know it’s time to give my front porch a little seasonal refresh. There’s something so special about welcoming spring with a front door that says "come on in, sunshine!"

Today I’m sharing a simple but beautiful way I update my front door for the season. It’s one of my favorite little traditions—and such an easy DIY you can totally recreate, even if you’re not the craftiest gal!

Step 1: Swap Out That Winter Wreath ❄️➡️🌸

Winter wreaths are cozy and charming, but once March rolls around, I’m ready for something fresh and timeless. I always reach for my classic magnolia wreath—it’s elegant, southern, and has that perfect pop of green and white to brighten things up without being too flashy.

Magnolia leaves are just like a good pair of cowgirl boots—they go with everything and never go out of style.

Tip: I snagged mine a while back, but Amazon has some gorgeous options. I’ll link a few of my favorites below if you’re on the hunt!

Step 2: Add a DIY Wreath Sash 🎀 (The Southern Way)

This is where the magic happens. Instead of a traditional bow, I love using a wreath sash to give my front door a polished, elevated look. It feels a little like dressing your door for church—sweet, simple, and southern.

This year, I did a DIY version using:

  • A plain white wreath sash I found on Amazon (I’ll link the exact one I used!)

  • Blue and white floral ribbon to tie in my brand colors

  • A quick little hand-tied bow at the bottom for charm

Think of it like accessorizing your wreath—just like adding a statement necklace to your outfit.

Step 3: Secure It All

Loop the wreath sash around the bottom or top of the wreath (I like mine at the bottom for a tailored look), and then secure your ribbon on top. A little hot glue or floral wire will hold everything in place if you’re dealing with wind. That’s it!

Bonus Ideas to Make It Yours:

  • Embroider or iron-on a monogram or seasonal image like an American Flag or Hydrangea

  • Swap the ribbon seasonally—blue gingham for spring, red, white & blue for summer, plaid for fall

  • Use real ribbon or wired options for structure depending on your weather

Final Look: Classic, Clean, & Southern

Here’s a peek at how it turned out on my own door. It feels like me—charming, simple, and just a little custom. Plus, it pairs beautifully with all my other spring porch touches like my pot, rocking chairs, and that sweet doormat that makes everyone smile.
